Abstract
In this developmental paper, we aim to examine how generative AI shapes postgraduate international students’ engagement through a psychological needs perspective. Adopting an interpretive qualitative approach, we seek to illuminate the subjective experiences of postgraduate international students’ usage of generative AI and its impact on their need for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Data collection will be facilitated through semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis.
