Abstract
This paper explores the influence of Confucian and Daoist philosophies on sustainable leadership among Chinese business executives. It highlights integrating traditional Chinese values into contemporary business practices, emphasizing the importance of harmony, balance, and ethical behavior. The study examines how these philosophies shape sustainability initiatives and decision-making processes through semi-structured interviews with senior executives from state-owned enterprises, multinational companies, and private businesses. The findings reveal that Confucianism and Daoism contribute to a unique approach to sustainability, focusing on long-term ecological balance and social harmony. This research provides valuable insights into the cultural underpinnings of sustainable leadership in China and offers practical implications for global businesses operating in or with China. Understanding these cultural influences is crucial for developing effective and culturally sensitive sustainability strategies that align with both local values and global sustainability goals.
