Abstract
This developmental paper reports a work-in-progress study that aims at exploring how AI, seen simultaneously as the product of, and a threat to, an interprofessional collaboration between developers and domain experts, can influence the identity work of its creators. Through semi-structured interviews, we plan to conduct an inductive qualitative study among developers and domain specialists designing and implementing AI in their daily practice and analyse the data with grounded theory approaches. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to identity work and AI literatures by understanding how AI, as a unique, ‘quasi-social’ agent and source of identity threat, can disruptively interact with developers and domain experts and induce their identity work in a collaborative circle of creation.
