Abstract
This paper seeks to conceptualise the relationship between entrepreneurship education (EE) and sustainable development. It uses a framework offered by Fayolle and Gailly (2008) that covers the ‘what’, the ‘why’ the ‘how’ the ‘for whom’ and ‘for which results’ of EE and considers how these questions can be applied to create the foundation for a more responsible form of EE. The premise here is that there is still very limited conceptualisation of the EE and education for sustainable development (ESD) link, that EE has unique characteristics which means a simple adoption of principles of ESD in business education is inappropriate, and finally, that the drive for sustainability must focus on the everyday decisions made by business owners. Because of the inclusion of the ‘how’ dimension, the paper will also offer practical recommendations on how to deliver EE for sustainable development.
