Abstract
Despite the traditional approach to systematic reviews highlighting the nature, scope and importance of PD in business-societal relations, the extension of such systematic reviews to include additional emerging challenges posed by PD and more sustainable and responsible opportunities for contemporary business-societal relations have been missing for decades. The focus of this developmental paper is a four-decade review of over 60 journal articles on PD in business-societal relations from 1980 to date, with the aim of deepening scholars and business practitioners’ understanding of how and where to resolve challenge-based relations between businesses and people. The new proposal is surfaced as an alternative set of PD-Business-Societal frontiers highlighting management principles and practices for a more sustainable, responsible, and responsive management to address psychic distance constraints in business and societal relations. The findings highlight the trends, challenges, and the complex nature of PD in business-societal relations and the management contribution serves as an initial step in radically reimagining how the challenges posed by PD to businesses and society are better addressed thereby advancing Responsible Management and Business Studies.
