Abstract
The study sought to contribute to extant work on job crafting by examining: (1) the influence of future time perspective (FTP) on job crafting, and (2) the mediating role of achievement goals and self-leadership on job crafting. Data were collected from 364 academics in Ghana using both online and paper questionnaire over three months. Results indicate that FTP has no significant direct effect on job crafting. Both approach and avoidance goals were found to have a significant positive impact on approach and avoidance crafting respectively. Furthermore, approach goal orientation was found to have a full mediation effect on the relationship between extended FTP and approach crafting. The avoidance goal, however, had no mediating effect on the relationship between limited FTP and avoidance crafting. Self-leadership was also found to fully mediate the relationship between extended FTP and approach crafting. The findings of this study are discussed within the framework of the expectancy-value theory and the self-regulation theory.
