Abstract
This study examines coopetition in the travel and tourism industry and investigates the linkage between Coopetitive dynamics on destinations performance outcomes. Data was collected from 200 hotel managers in India, using a stratified random sampling. Results of PLS-SEM revealed that a coopetition mindset enhances vertical partnerships and destination quality, yet quality improvements alone do not strengthen destinations’ overall brand equity. Competitive intensity acts as a double-edged sword: while it boosts performance, excessive rivalry undermines trust and resource sharing. The study contributes theoretically by highlighting industry-specific challenges such as opportunistic behavior and paradoxical tensions, and practically by offering insights for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 and SDG 17) through resource efficiency and collaborative strategies. These findings guide policymakers and practitioners toward fostering sustainable, high-performing destinations through coopetition.
